American Apparel Viral Marketing

I was perusing the Sartorialist and couldn't help but notice a rather unique add by American Apparel. The outfit seen here caught my eyes as both being something I wouldn't expect to see from AA or something seen advertised on the Sarts site. After a little clicking I came to the understanding that this is part of a viral marketing campaign by American Apparel that utilizes pimping unique pieces that are a little edgier than their usual basics. What AA is doing is selling the pants/shoes as part of a limited edition that are auctioned off on ebay. They are branding the items as unique pieces as seen on the Sartorialists sight and only available through ebay. The exclusivity and associations that this campaign uses really articulates some clever marketing to establish a somewhat cult underground for these AA pieces (if it works). I don't think I have seen anything quite like this before.
If your interested in the shoes.
Or the pants.
They also have a couple outfits strictly for the ladies ;)

Kanye West - Heartless (unmastered)

This is the link from Kanye's blog for Heartless from 808 & Heartbreaks!

I linked directly to Kanye's blog because it's his song.
The link also has pictures of the Vanessa Beecroft/ Kanye West 808 & Heartbreaks listening party!

Favourite Things Series: Jeff Wall - Insomnia

One of my favourite pictures from Jeff Wall. Jeff Wall is a Canadian photographer best known for his large-scale back-lit cibachrome photographs and art-historical writing.
Insomnia (1994)

"The set for this work is an exact replica of the kitchen in Wall’s studio. The man seemingly suffering from a nightmarish episode of insomnia is an actor. The claustrophobic atmosphere is emphasised by the awkward positioning of the furniture – tables and chairs are placed at angles that defeat their function, and appear to block the fridge and cooker from opening. The door and cupboard, half ajar, could be read as metaphors for the mind, in its struggle to find an escape into sleep." from
Tate Online.
Also a link to an article about Jeff Wall by Tom Eccles from Art in America.

Kanye West looking better then most

This is Kanye from fashion week looking fly as a mother fucker, pictures are from photographer Peter Miszuk's site.

I first saw these pictures at refinery29's site.

This is just awesome, I bet John McCain prefers beach cruisers.

and in Canada this would be taken down by all parties for the fact it indicates riding a bike without a helmet is ok.

Originally from Ipsofatso, seen on Hipster Nascar

Edt: check the McCain/Palin picture from Ipsofatso., I guess McCain prefers pennyfarthings.

The Unicorns - Tuff Luff

After posting Kanye's video I thought to myself that I really should post more videos, especially ones that may not be fresh in everyone's consciousness at this very moment. So without further ado, The Unicorns with Tuff Luff

The Unicorns are one of my favourite bands ever.

Hyden Yoo Cashmere Sweaters

I saw these sweaters on the Blackbird site and fell just a little bit in love with them. The detail is insane and the design is both classic and contemporary. They are both 100% cashmere (no red dots) and have metal buttons. It is the little things like button quality that is often overlooked by designers, but to me details like this is indicative of the quality of the piece.

available from Blackbird in Seattle.

Kanye West Lock Lockdown video

The video for Kanye West's Love Lockdown, as premiered on Ellen recently. I know I'm late, and this video is everywhere but oh well.

Love Lockdown is the first single off Kanye's new album coming out later this year, it is a refreshing change of pace from pop musics current greatest innovator.

My Favourite Things Series: Jeans

I have a bit of an obsession with jeans, less then others for sure and not nearly as refined as elite denim heads but an obsession no less.
I prefer dry or raw denim mostly because I dont like washing my jeans in the first place. I have about seven pairs in my rotation. I prefer skinnier denim so that is most of what I have.
My denim included
Nudie Jeans Slim Jim Dry Black
Cheap Monday Regular Blue
Cheap Monday Grey
Nudie Jeans Thin Finn Organic Dry Indigo Blue
Johan by J. Lindeberg Logan Black (coated) (tailored to be tapered)
Corpus Stick Acidwash Grey
Meltin' Pot Manfred Blue
I keep going into local shops such as Still Life, Outlooks for Men or Four Horsemen or browsing sites online looking for more denim but I really can't justify any more members of the family right now.
The Cheap Monday's are not great quality denim but have lots of stretch and offer good looking comfortable skinny jeans.
The Nudie Slim Jims are the ones I wear the least because they are a little too loose in the ankle, Im thinking of getting them taken in by my tailor.
The Thin Finns are my favourite jeans but I have worn them way too hard, bailed on the bike and had the crotch blow out several time. After gaining some muscle in my thighs the Finns are too tight to wear comfortably, hopefully they aren't gone forever they have some great signs of wear on them.
The J. Lindeberg jeans are great, cause they are comfortable and I can wear them to work
The Corpus acid wash jeans are probably my favourite jeans right now, they have some stretch in them so I can bike comfortably, but they are a better quality denim then the Cheap Mondays and the grey is a little more unique as well.
The Melin' Pot are great, a little classier. They are the jeans I wear when I think of some of the stuff being done by Robert Geller or Our Legacy, they are the narrow but not skinny fitting and are made with heavier denim then the others. These are how I wish the Slim Jims fit and are a nice shift from the skinner jeans without feeling to baggy for my taste.

My Favorite Things Series: Keds Champions

These are the new Chucks to me, I just wish I could keep them clean. And I also wish you could buy them in Canada.

My Favorite Things Series: Deep Drop Track Bars

Probably not the most practical handlebars, and definitely quite played out in the fixed gear seen - but still, these track bars just look so hot, and although a deep drop may not be the best position to be in for extended period of time while riding, it just feels fast reaching down there. Now all I need to do is figure the best way to mount a break lever on there, Im finding riding brakeless downtown to be dangerous and prevents me from going top speeds. Im thinking I will either mount the obvious short-lever cross bar style, or maybe use a tektro lever that mount at the end to the bar on bullhorn bars, it may look inconspicuous or it might just look dumb, thoughts?

My Favorite Things Series: Herringbone Jacket

This blazer is by all means pretty cheap, I have had it for years and its starting to get beaten up. Still a herringbone pattern is something you still don't see enough. I guess I really enjoy both traditional British and American esthetics and herringbone is sophisticated yet casual; something I think we all aspire to be.

My Favorite Things Series: Duffle Coat

Original, made in England Duffle Coat.
Wood toggles, classic styling and warm as it needs to be. This coat is the perfect example of function and fashion working together side by side. This coat is just cool.

My Favorite Things Series: Allen Edmonds Brogues

I purchased these vintage which I think ads to authenticity of the classic style. These brogues are Allen Edmonds, handmade in the U.S.A., and although they do have some scuffs/signs of wear they still polish up nicely. Brogues (or Wing Tips) are a staple for every wardrobe, preferably both in black and brown, and they should be handmade.
